PA12 (Nylon 12)
The workhorse of powder bed printing: durable, lightweight functional parts with no supports.
What is PA12 (Nylon 12)?
PA12 is the most widely used material in SLS and MJF. It offers balanced strength, toughness and chemical resistance, with lower moisture absorption than PA6. Since it needs no supports, complex, nested and moving parts can be printed in one go.
- High strength
- Chemical resistant
- Lightweight

Frequently asked questions about PA12 (Nylon 12)
What is PA12 (Nylon 12)?
PA12 is the most widely used material in SLS and MJF. It offers balanced strength, toughness and chemical resistance, with lower moisture absorption than PA6. Since it needs no supports, complex, nested and moving parts can be printed in one go.
Is PA12 (Nylon 12) heat resistant?
The heat deflection temperature (0.45 MPa) of PA12 (Nylon 12) is about 165 °C. This is high; it can be used near engine bays, in hot air and steam.
Can PA12 (Nylon 12) be used outdoors?
It usually performs well in short and medium-term outdoor use; for parts exposed to direct sunlight for long periods, UV-resistant materials such as ASA are a better fit.
Which parts are made with PA12 (Nylon 12)?
PA12 (Nylon 12) is typically used in applications such as functional prototypes and end-use parts, enclosures and clips, air ducts, orthotic and prosthetic parts.
Which material can be used instead of PA12 (Nylon 12)?
Depending on the application, PA11 (Nylon 11), Nylon (PA6 / PA12), PA12 CF can be alternatives. You can see the differences in the comparison tables on the material pages.
