Standard resin

High detail and smooth surfaces; the core resin for visual models and prototypes.

What is Standard resin?

Standard resins are general-purpose photopolymers offered in colors such as grey, white and black. Thanks to very fine detail and smooth surfaces, they are ideal for presentation models, figures and form-fit prototypes. Mechanically they are hard but brittle under impact.

Technical data

Typical values compiled from common manufacturer datasheets; they vary by brand and grade.

Tensile strength (post-cured)≈ 50 – 65 MPa
Elongation at break≈ 5 – 10%
Tensile modulus≈ 2.2 – 2.8 GPa
Heat deflection temperature (0.45 MPa)≈ 60 – 75 °C

Design guidelines for Standard resin

General guidelines for SLA technology. All design guidelines

  • Minimum wall thickness0.5 mm (supported) / 1 mm
  • Smallest detail0.2 mm
  • Clearance for moving parts0.2 – 0.4 mm
  • Text and logosEmbossed ≥ 0.3 mm, engraved ≥ 0.4 mm
  • Minimum hole diameterØ 0.5 mm
  • Unsupported overhang angle≥ 30° from horizontal; flatter surfaces need support
  • Escape holeØ 3.5 mm drain hole in hollow parts

Applications

  • Presentation and visual prototypes
  • Figures and miniatures
  • Form and fit tests

Advantages

  • Very fine detail
  • Smooth surface
  • Easy to paint

Limitations

  • Brittle
  • Yellows and becomes brittle over time under UV light

Frequently asked questions about Standard resin

What is Standard resin?

Standard resins are general-purpose photopolymers offered in colors such as grey, white and black. Thanks to very fine detail and smooth surfaces, they are ideal for presentation models, figures and form-fit prototypes. Mechanically they are hard but brittle under impact.

Is Standard resin heat resistant?

The heat deflection temperature (0.45 MPa) of Standard resin is about 70 °C. This is moderate; enough for everyday use and warm environments.

Can Standard resin be used outdoors?

It can degrade under prolonged sunlight and UV light. For outdoor use, ASA or another UV-resistant material should be preferred.

Which parts are made with Standard resin?

Standard resin is typically used in applications such as presentation and visual prototypes, figures and miniatures, form and fit tests.

Which material can be used instead of Standard resin?

Depending on the application, Tough resin (ABS-like), PLA, Castable resin can be alternatives. You can see the differences in the comparison tables on the material pages.
