HIPS filament
A lightweight, easy-to-process support material for ABS that dissolves in limonene.

What is HIPS?
Because HIPS prints at similar temperatures to ABS, it is used as a soluble support in dual-nozzle printers; it dissolves in limonene to clean out complex internal geometries. On its own it is suitable for lightweight model parts that are easy to sand and paint.

Frequently asked questions about HIPS
What is HIPS?
Because HIPS prints at similar temperatures to ABS, it is used as a soluble support in dual-nozzle printers; it dissolves in limonene to clean out complex internal geometries. On its own it is suitable for lightweight model parts that are easy to sand and paint.
Is HIPS heat resistant?
The heat deflection temperature (0.45 MPa) of HIPS is about 85 °C. This is moderate; enough for everyday use and warm environments.
Can HIPS be used outdoors?
It can degrade under prolonged sunlight and UV light. For outdoor use, ASA or another UV-resistant material should be preferred.
Which parts are made with HIPS?
HIPS is typically used in applications such as soluble support for abs, lightweight models, packaging prototypes.
Which material can be used instead of HIPS?
Depending on the application, PVA, ABS, PLA can be alternatives. You can see the differences in the comparison tables on the material pages.
